Congrations to Alvin Matautia for being selected as our Volunteer of the Month for August 2009!
Alvin has been with the American Red Cross since August 2008 and has already established a name for himself. Working once in a week in the Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Call Center as well as 3.5 days in the Chapter Call Center, Alvin has proven himself to be a dedicated and devoted volunteer.
In early July 2009, Volunteer Resources sent an email to Alvin, asking if he could schedule 1 day a week to help with the Chapter Call Center. To our greatest surprise, Alvin decided to commit not just 1 day a week but rather 3.5 to the call center! By Alvin assuming these extra shifts, it has tremendously relieved our Chapter Call Center. Moreover, his time and efforts are so invaluable to the Health and Safety Team.
Alvin is currently serving as a Reservist Marine and has committed himself to assisting the military personnel and their families in his volunteer work with the Red Cross. His contributions to the SAF department are so vital to the continual communication and connection between those two parties. In fact, Alvin's fondest memory with the Red Cross was on his first day with the SAF department when his first phone call was from an American Samoan family in Hawaii. Being from Hawaii himself and having parents that are American Samoan, he felt that the phone call was a sign that he was in the right place to volunteer.
Furthermore, Alvin is going to the University of Phoenix fulltime, studying to receive his Bachelor of Science in Health Administration. He eventually would like to get involved with the Red Cross Aquatics program.
Alvin, thank you so much for your commitment to the call centers and the American Red Cross. It is because of volunteers like yourself that we are able to carry on our positive name in the community and are able to provide excellent customer service. This recognition is a small token of our gratitude – congratulations on being selected as our Volunteer of the Month!
