Red Cross Assists Survivors of House Fire in El Cajon

(El Cajon) - The American Red Cross responded to a house fire today on Van Houten Ave., in El Cajon, dispatching disaster workers to care for affected family members and to provide canteen services for several dozen emergency personnel on scene.
The home suffered major damage and a fatality was reported. Casework interviewers from the Red Cross met with the family of three adults and three children who were affected by the fire to discuss and identify immediate needs resulting from the fire. The Red Cross is providing a place to stay, clothing,and food. The Red Cross will continue to work with the family in the coming days as needed and as it plans their long-range recovery.
Volunteers from the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross are on call 24 hours a day and are trained in various aspects of disaster response, including casework interviews, damage assessment, shelter, feeding, health services, and crisis counseling.
